Construction of new hydroelectric power plant in Norway is up to Skanska

For constructing the new Svean power plant in Klæbu, Trøndelag County, Norway, a NOK 507 million contract has been concluded between Skanska and Statkraft, which is part of Skanska’s order bookings for the Nordic region in the first quarter of 2025.

Also building of a new hydroelectric power plant near the existing Svean facility, which has been operational since 1940 and requires significant rehabilitation, is a content of this project and the current plant will remain operational for most of the construction period.

Being located inside the mountain, Skanska will be responsible for all building-related work in the new facility, that includes digging 1.6km of tunnels and reusing a 3km transfer tunnel from Selbusjøen to Svean, whereas a new intake is also due to be constructed in Selbusjøen.

The estimated annual capacity for new power plant is following operation is almost 130 GWh of electricity, that is enough to supply about 6,000 households.

The scheduled date for commencing the construction process is January 2025 and completion anticipated by December 2027.
