Considering that in recent weeks new equipment and technologies are being delivered on the Mont Cenis base tunnel more advances is being made in this project.
In order to advancing the construction of four ventilation shafts on the CO5a site near Modane in France, a sprayed concrete robot is being trialled, whereas its location will be in the 500m-deep shafts to apply the first sprayed concrete lining.
As Telt, that is the French-Italian client for the new Lyon-Turin rail route, stated this new technology was designed specifically for the project and for removing the need for an operator to enter the shaft this robot is operated by remote control.
Additionally, on the 07 construction site in Saint-Martin-la-Porte, the first TBM components have been delivered. While operating process of this Herrenknecht TBM is up to the Italian-French group CO 6-7 comprising Vinci Construction, Webuild, Dodin Campenon Bernard and Campenon Bernard Centre Est, it is due to excavate the 9km north tube between Saint-Martin-la-Porte and La Praz and digging process on the south tube has been completed.
As one of the longest rail tunnels in the world, the 57.5km Mont Cenis base tunnel is 12.5km in Italy and 45km in France.
