With the aim of improving water quality in Wrongway Brook, which is a tributary of the River Ribble, construction of a new underground stormwater storage tunnel and sewer network upgrade is due to commence in Lancashire.
Following completion of this £5.5m project, the 300m-long tunnel is going to hold over than two million litres of stormwater, while giving Kirkham’s wastewater network additional capacity during heavy rainfall and assisting to improve water quality in Wrongway Brook by reducing storm water discharges.
The location of this tunnel will be more than 4m beneath ground.
As a wider £94.5m investment in 12 projects across Fylde and Wyre during the next five years, the first phase of United Utilities project will involve upgrading the sewer network with the introduction of larger pipes. The scheduled date for completing the work is summer next year.
