In order to building the Haga–Otterhällan section of the Västlänken railway connection beneath central Gothenburg, Veidekke was appointed on behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket).
As a cost-plus contract, the estimated value for this project is SKr430m (£31.78m) excluding VAT.
Stretching almost 500m between Rosenlundsplatsen and the Harbour Canal, the works consists of a double-track tunnel and two service tunnels in rock, whereas in this subproject, Västlänken is due to pass several underground structures such as the Götatunnel, garages, and shelters.
Including a 6km rail tunnel, that is under the city of Gothenburg, Västlänken, or the West Link, is an 8km-long double track railway and it is slated to link commuter rail services to existing routes and include three new underground stations at Gothenburg Central Station, Haga and Korsvägen.
The division of project based on a geographical conditions of the route includes five packages, Olskroken, Centralen, Kvarnberget, Haga and Korsvägen. In addition, there will be an overall contract for the rail, electronics, signalling system and telecommunications.
Being adopted in 2014 by government, the West Link Project is included in the national plan for the Swedish Transport System 2014-2025.
