As a part of the Ionian highway in southern Italy, being built for Italy’s state road agency, ANAS, Roseto 1 tunnel’s breakthrough in the last diaphragm of the northbound drive was done.
Webuild broke through on the southbound drive of the 1.2km road tunnel in March, whereas work on the tunnel commenced in 2020.
Including a 38km section of the highway, Webuild’s Mega Lot 3 contract comprises of 10km of tunnels, three rock tunnels and 11 cut and cover tunnels, and 7km of viaducts. Linking the Ionian coasts of Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia will be up to this section.
Considering that Webuild’s first two construction site operator courses were commissioned in Calabria in recent weeks, almost 45 young and unemployed people from the region were taken the courses. It is part of Webuild’s programme to hire 10,000 people by 2026, 80% of them from southern Italy.
