Being considered as the world’s largest shaft boring machine, the 230-ton CRCHI Dream TBM with 10m high and an excavation diameter of 23.02m, has been launched at an underground smart parking garage project in Jing’an District, Shanghai.
In order to constructing the super-large diameter shafts in soft soil and soft rock strata, Dream integrates the excavation, slagging, support and guidance functions.
As CRCHI mentions, considering that around the world the construction of underground smart parking garages is accelerating so the number of large diameter and ultra-deep shaft projects is increasing. Although construction of the mechanized sink shaft is done using shaft boring machines with an excavation diameter of 13-14m, this is the first shaft boring machine with an excavation diameter of more than 15m.
To meet the needs of the super-large diameter excavation, while ensuring the efficiency of vertical shaft excavation, CRCHI’s R&D team designed mechanical sink shaft equipment with enhanced reliability during construction through water-bearing strata. Additionally, providing unmanned construction more than halving costs and improving safety, is another advantage of Dream TBM.
Including a total of 19 floors, the underground smart parking garage in Shanghai Jing’an District covers an area of 286m2 above ground and 1,408m2 underground. The project involves two deep foundation shafts, each with a 23m diameter and a burial depth of 53m, while each shaft is slated to have 152 mechanical parking spaces.
