Pressure Balance TBM for Haizhuwan Tunnel Project

In order to advance the Guangzhou Haizhuwan tunnel project a large diameter slurry pressure balance TBM has rolled off CRCHI’s production line in Changsha.

With an excavation diameter of 15.07m, the TBM Pioneer is being used in Guangzhou Haizhuwan tunnel project, which is the largest bored tunnel under construction in Guangzhou, whereas its total length is 4.35km, of which 2.08km is due to be constructed by TBM.

Crossing through the broken zone and beneath the Pearl River channel twice, the intended TBM passing location’s geology includes mudstone and argillaceous siltstone formations.

Considering existence of these challenges, in order to decreasing them CRCHI has equipped the TBM with a telescopic main drive, excavation chamber visualization system, automatic measurement monitoring as well as online monitoring of the cutting tool status.

As a two-way six-lane expressway that forms the northern section of the Guangzhou South Railway Station Express Channel, the Haizhuwan Tunnel is slated to slash vehicle journey times between the railway station and the city center. The determined date for inauguration of this project is end of 2024.
