Moscow Metro – Launching New Section of Big Circle Line

Big Circle Line - Moscow Metro

Locating between Kakhovskaya and Kashirskaya stations, the technical commissioning of the section of the Big Circle Line was implemented by Moscow Metro. As the shortest line in the network, this section is the former Kakhovskaya line (Line 11A) that temporarily has been closed for modernization and further integration into the BCL.

The 2021 was reopening date of Kakhovskaya station and the new ring line is scheduled to be one of the most important transport hubs; Transfer to Line 2. In December 2022, Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya stations work was completed by Moscow, whereas the are going to serve huge areas with a population of around 500 thousand.

Although the Kakhovskaya line was not popular enough before its reconstruction, the line shortened trains and 5-minute intervals. Also, the interval will be decreased to 1,6 minutes once the line becomes part of BCL. The wagons are due to consist of about 100 modern Russian-made Moscow-2020 trains.

Among BCL’s 22 inaugurated stations, 10 of them entered service in previous December and the line is slated to have 31 stations in total. Considering Moscow Metro Big Circle Line as the longest metro circle line in the world, the Big 70 km long Circle Line will surpass the hitherto world leader Beijing Circle Line (Line 10).
