The Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel and Cross Bay Link are to be Commissioned on December 11

Commissioning of the TKO-LTT (Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel) and the Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O (CBL) will be on December 11 to enhance the transport network and ease the commuting public.

A representative of the Transport and Logistics Bureau stated: “Upon their commissioning, the TKO-LTT and CBL will provide a new route between Tseung Kwan O and Kwun Tong as well as the Eastern Harbor Crossing, shortening the journey time between the LOHAS Park and Kwun Tong Town Centre by up to about 20 minutes during the morning peak hours.”

The TKO-LTT is a new trunk road connecting Tseung Kwan O and the urban area, with a length of approximately 3.8 kilometers in total, of which nearly 2.2km is in the form of a tunnel. It links the CBL and Po Shun Road in the east, the Eastern Harbor Crossing, Cha Kwo Ling Road in Kwun Tong, and the Trunk Road T2 under construction in the west.

Upon its commissioning, the TKO-LTT will provide an alternative route to the current Tseung Kwan O Tunnel to help divert the traffic to and from Tseung Kwan O. Not only will it assist meet the traffic demand emerging from the continual development in Tseung Kwan O, but also the commissioning of the TKO-LTT makes an opportunity for waiving the toll of the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. The Government will generate a toll waiver for the TKO-LTT and Tseung Kwan O Tunnel from the day when the TKO-LTT and CBL are open to traffic to ease commuting by the public.

The length of CBL is about 1.8km, of which around 1km is a marine viaduct. It connects the TKO-LTT and Wan Po Road adjacent to LOHAS Park. As reported, the CBL will be the first marine viaduct in Hong Kong, including carriageways, a cycle track and a footway. Along with diverting the traffic at Wan Po Road, the marine viaduct will link to the cycle track along the Tseung Kwan O waterfront to form a 5km coastal cycling track loop. in addition, there will be viewing platforms on the viaduct for the public to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Junk Bay and the Eastern Channel.

Currently, the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) and its contractors are working on the final stage of the works, such as driving final tests on systems and associated drills, plus the toll-free arrangement of the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. Moreover, the CEDD is coordinating with different departments and the tunnel operator to prepare for the commissioning of the road sections concerned.

The CEDD, along with the Transport Department and the Hong Kong Police Force, has provided additional information containing the engineering features of the TKO-LTT and CBL, traffic and public transport arrangements upon commissioning etc., on their website.
