Sydney Metro – Upgrade of Central Station Powering Towards a Greener Future

Sydney Metro Central Station Solar Panels Delivery

Following introduction of the 116-year-old station’s first solar panels, Sydney Metro’s transformation of Central Station is powering ahead sustainably.

The quantity of total solar panels installed at Australia’s busiest railway station is 664, which are due to generate 366.3 megawatt hours of solar energy each year, the equivalent amount of energy required to charge a Model 3 Tesla 6,783 times or power an average Australian home for 52 years.

The power lights across three Central Station platforms will be provided through the renewable energy generated from the solar array and this is going to reduce the electricity demand of Sydney Trains assets at the station by around 10 percent.

Being installed on top of new canopies above intercity railway platforms 12 to 14, the solar panels have no impact on the station’s heritage value.

The scheduled date for operation of the new solar array is in time for when metro services start at the station in 2024.
