The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor of India’s new Rapid Regional Transport System reached first breakthrough.
Following construction of a 750m tunnel between Ghandi Park and Begumpul stations, on 22 October the TBM, Sudarshan 8.3, launched at Begumpul RRTS station in Meerut and the digging process took four months.
Currently, the plan is retrieving and returning TBM to Ghandi Park in order to commencing work on a parallel tunnel, while two other TBMs – Sudarshan 8.1 and 8.2 – are excavating parallel tunnels from Bhaisall to Football Chowk with 1.8km length.
Providing a high-speed, high-capacity commuter service, the 82km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is due to have 25 stations, including two depots and one stabling yard.
The scheduled date for completion of this project is 2025.
