The inauguration process of the underground work for the Corridor-2 of Phase-I of the 30.91 km subway in Patna, the capital of Bihar, was done by the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Tejasvi Yadav in the current month.
Including 6 stations (Rajendra Nagar, Moin Ul Haq Stadium, University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan, and Akashvani), the underground section (package PC-03) of Corridor-2 had been granted to Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in December. As the first underground station is due to be constructed on Corridor-2: in the last few weeks, L&T lowered the first reinforced cage to form the diaphragm wall (D-wall) for the Moin Ul Haq Stadium Station.
The intended two metro corridors in Patna will be:
- Corridor -1 Danapur-Mithapur-Khemnichak will be 17.933 km long, with 7.393 km of above ground and 10.54 km underground
- Corridor-2 Patna Railway Station-Gandhi Maidan-Patliputra Bus Terminal will be 14.564 km long, with 7.926 km underground and 6.638 km above the ground.
Consisting of six underground stations on Corridor-2 and six stations on Corridor- 1, the Patna Metro’s underground project was approved on March 17, 2020, while most of the underground stations are being constructed using the cut and cover method.
The construction process of Package PC-03 underground section Larsen & Toubro will be done by using 4 TBMs: 2 new machines from China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (CRCHI) and 2 refurbished machines (S71 & S72) from Hubei Tiandi Heavy Industries (THI)/Terratec which were previously used for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1.
The first two CRCHI TBM (DZ1090 and DZ1091) recently passed factory acceptance tests.
