Among four TBMs, which are used for excavating Melbourne Metro Tunnel, two of them have reached their final destination in Melbourne’s CBD.
The commencing location of TBM Millie was Anzac Station and it travelled beneath the Yarra River to reach the CBD. The Millie TBM, which was the first TBM of this project, has completed her 9km tunneling journey at Town Hall Station, 25 m under the Swanston Street, on the Metro Tunnel Project.
TBM Joan arrived soon after, coming from the State Library Station site in the west.
It is expected that TBMs Alice and Meg finish their ultimate parts of the Metro Tunnel’s twin 9km tunnels in future weeks and this will be a remarkable step as the end of all TBM digging works for the project.
The Town Hall Station is the intended location that will all TBMs enter to and then they will be dismantled and removed from the site. Moreover, for excavating the rail platform tunnels within the station box, the roadheaders will be launched.
