A 6.57m diameter TBM EPB-Shield to build an underground storage tunnel for the Ship Canal Water Quality Project is assembled and enters the next phase, undergoing the Factory Acceptance Test. The Herrenknecht-made machine, ordered by the Seattle Public Utilities and King County Wastewater Treatment Division, will be shipped from Germany to the USA to be launched in January 2021 for tunnel construction (4.27 km-long and 5,73m internal diameter).
The Ship Canal Water Quality Project will run from Wallingford to Ballard site to reduce overflows and avoid 283 million liters of sewage into the Lake Washington Ship Canal, Salmon Bay, and Lake Union each year.
The Lane Construction Corporation was awarded the USD255 million contract to build the proposed tunnel in Seattle, Washington, by the end of 2022/2023.
