The Mix shield TBM of diameter 6.54m finally reached the construction site, to be lowered into the shaft for tunnel boring soon at the next stage.
Ahead of the machine’s launch, students from classes 1 to 12 are invited by The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts to submit their votes for the TBM’s naming and art contest. In December, the top three winners will be receiving cash prizes, respectively.
The 11km long x 5.5 m diameter Los Angeles tunnel will be in service as a new extension to the current network; to better convey treated water from the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant in Carson to Royal Palms Beach Outfalls located in San Pedro.
Work is underway since 2019; once the construction contract worth USD630 million was awarded to Dragados USA Inc. and is planned to be finalized by 2026.
