By A new EPB TBM which is 3.14m-diameter and has been made by Terratec, is set to be shipped to the MSDP (Mumbai Sewer Disposal Project) Stage II Priority Works following a successful factory acceptance check.
The mentioned EPB TBM is Terratec’s 25th one that has been delivered to India in the past eight years through which its machines have bored more than 58 km of tunnels on essential sewer, metro and hydropower projects. The machine is going to be used by Michigan Engineers (contractor) working for the MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai).
The length of the first drive will be 1,857m. The Mumbai Sewer Disposal Project is one of a series of sewage projects being started by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in its efforts to improve the reliability and quality of wastewater collection, treatment and disposal for an ever-growing population.
The TBM is designed to get through different geological conditions along tunnel alignments characterized by mixed ground, breccia and basalt. It shows off 25 rings of 17” rear-replaceable disc cutters and a high-torque main drive that is able to rotate up to five rpm. Moreover, it is equipped with a fully-active articulation system to accommodate a minimum curve radius of 250m. Because of the installation of a full hyperbaric man-lock and size constraints, the TBM’s main drive is hydraulic.
As the machine develops, its erector will install 200mm x 1,000mm reinforced concrete segments in a 4+1 configuration. Segment conveyance, muck removal and machine supply will be gained by Terratec rolling stock and battery locomotives, while the company’s field service staff will be on hand to supply after-sales support.
