By Skanska, an infrastructure firm, has signed a contract for primary work on a new water supply system for Oslo that intends to verify that the city can supply enough drinking water even in the event of supply failure.
Construction of the project will begin in September 2020 and will be completed by May 2024.
The New Water Supply Oslo contract is worth around US$324 million and was signed with The Agency for Water and Wastewater Services of Oslo Municipality.
The work largely requires the blasting of rock chambers and 3 large tunnels with a total length of 5 kilometers. Nearly 1.2 million cubic meters of solid rock will be excavated which is going to see Skanska operating 7 tunnel rigs at the peak of production. Special measures, such as systematic pre-injection, will be essential as the project is in a region of central Oslo that has a complex geology.
