Megha Engineering & Infrastructure awarded for the Zojila Pass contract

The construction contractor MEIL wins The Zojila Tunnel’s contract, the longest bi-directional tunnel in Asia (stretching 14.2km). The Indian company MEIL gets the better of its opponents Larsen & Toubro and Iron International, to place the lowest bid for $1.96 billion.

Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said: “We are also starting work on the around Rs 7,500-Rs 8,000 crore Zojila tunnel to connect Ladakh.”
Shortly the project will be implemented within seven years. The strategic Zojila Pass will be used as a permanent link (9.5m width and 7.6 height) from Srinagar to Kargil, marking a critical step toward accessing Leh even in unfavorable weather conditions.

MEIL stated earlier “This whole project has to be executed in two parts. The first part is 18.50 kilometers of road, and the second part is 14.15 kilometers as a tunnel…”
