The contract for designing and building the new Kongshaugen treatment plant in Norway, including shafts, was awarded to Veidekke.
Involving construction-related works pertaining to the treatment plant in the bedrock, such as major concrete works, the boring of ventilation shafts as well as water and frost protection, this NOK400m (€34m) project belongs to the municipalities of Ålesund and Sula. Additionally, construction of a two-storey administration building of almost 1,000m2, including related foundation works and landscaping is up to Veidekke.
While using low carbon concrete in all structures, the electric trucks are going to be used for the transport of most materials.
The scheduled date for commencing Veidekke’s construction works is September and are scheduled for completion in January 2028, whereas work on the project’s caverns is well under way.
In order to cleaning the wastewater generated by around 50,000 residents, the municipalities of Ålesund and Sula are working together through their project BLUE – Fjords for the Future. The plant at Kongshaugen will make fjords cleaner while also ensuring that all formal requirements relating to the treatment of wastewater in the two municipalities are met.
According to Stig Mork, district manager at Veidekke Bygg Møre og Romsdal: “We are delighted to have won the competition for this commission, and we very much appreciate the vote of confidence. We are most grateful to have been given the opportunity to work closely with these two municipalities as we build vital infrastructure that will help make the fjords cleaner.”
