The contract for a section of the West Link railway project in Gothenburg, has been granted to Implenia by Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket).
Including construction of a rail tunnel, a parallel service and emergency tunnel, as well as the new Haga underground station, this CHF100m contarct’s value is (£87m) and is based on a partnership model.
According to Christian Späth, head division civil engineering at Implenia: “We are delighted to contribute to this significant improvement of the transport infrastructure in western Sweden. Implenia will use its many years of extensive experience to implement the project and build this important new transport infrastructure in a logistically challenging, very tight inner-city space.”
As an 8km-long double track railway, Västlänken, or the West Link involves a 6km rail tunnel, beneath the city of Gothenburg, whereas it is due to link commuter rail services to existing routes and include three new underground stations at Gothenburg Central Station, Haga and Korsvägen.
While the 4km of tunnel that pass through rock will be excavated by drill and blast method, the remaining 2km is slated to be built using cut and cover.
In accordance with a geographical division of the route, this project is divided into five packages, Olskroken, Centralen, Kvarnberget, Haga and Korsvägen. Additionally for the rail, electronics, signalling system and telecommunications, there will be an overall contract.
Last week Veidekke announced it had won a SKr430m (£31.78m) contract for the West Link project. Its works cover approximately 500m between Rosenlundsplatsen and the Harbour Canal and consist of a double-track tunnel and two service tunnels in rock.
