Approval of Dubai Tasreef Rainwater Drainage project

As a project that intends to develop Dubai’s rainwater drainage network, the Tasreef project was approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

While the total cost of project is around $8 billion (AED 30 billion) and it  will be one of the emirates largest infrastructure projects, this project is designed to increase the capacity of Dubai’s rainwater drainage system by 700% and is going to cover all areas of the Emirate state.

With attendence of of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE; and Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the Tasreef project was approved.

The emphasize of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was on that the continued development of Dubai’s sustainable infrastructure is vital to its growth and prosperity.

Providing a drainage infrastructure that is advanced, safe, flexible, and ready to face future challenges, is the aim of this project, whereas it is a continuation of drainage projects commissioned by Dubai in 2019, covering the Expo Dubai area, Al Maktoum International Airport City, and Jebel Ali.

Following completion, the daily rainwater drainage capacity through the tunnels will reach 20 million cubic metres, with a flow capacity of 230 cubic metres per second, making it the largest rainwater collection project in a single system in the region.

Benefiting the latest Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), predicted to be the largest of their kind in the Middle East, the tunnels of the project will be constructed.
