Due to the auger hit metal objects, the rescue of the 41 men trapped in a part collapsed tunnel in India has paused.
Posting on LinkedIn, ITA president Arnold Dix, who is at the site in Uttarakhand, said: “Twisted steel, a jumbo and other equipment were buried in the collapse material and there was a huge cavity above the collapse zone.”
He said: “We have many strategies for the men’s safe return – the co-ordination between agencies and military [is] astounding.”
The time duration that men have been trapped in the under-construction Silkyara Bend-Barkot Tunnel in the Hmalayan region after a part collapse occurred on November 12, is almost two weeks.
In order to connecting four important Hindu pilgrimage sites with a two-lane road, this 4.5km tunnel is being developed for National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).
