While on October 12, the first TBM(Phyllis) had arrived at the future Oak-VGH Station on Vancouver’s Broadway Subway Project, the TBM Elsie that is the second TBM has broken through the station’s east wall of this project on Saturday 28th October and it was operated by Broadway Subway Project Corporation, an Acciona Ghella JV.
Installing over than 2,600 concrete tunnel-liner rings since departing from Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station. Phyllis, the two Herrenknecht TBMs have each excavated 2km of parallel tunnels and is preparing to commission towards South Granville shortly, while Elsie is due to follow once scheduled maintenance is complete.
As the fourth of six underground stations along the future Broadway subway corridor, the Oak-VGH Station is advancing well.
Considering the continuous construction of the concrete walls, columns and floors at all six stations, at the future Mount Pleasant Station the first section of concrete floor for the concourse level has been installed. Linking the Broadway Subway Project to the existing Millennium Line, the elevated guideway section is 700m-long and crews are pursuing to build the concrete deck in preparation for track work.
Providing a SkyTrain service along the Broadway corridor, the Broadway Subway Project is a 5.7km extension of the Millennium Line from VCC-Clark Station to West Broadway and Arbutus Street. The corridor hosts to British Columbia’s second-largest jobs center, healthcare services, an emerging innovation and research hub, as well as growing residential neighborhoods.
