A Balzola Polska and Lantania consortium has been granted a contract to design and build a 1·6 km tram extension in Warszawa.
This project will link Warszawa Zachodnia railway station with the tram stop at Bitwy Warszawskiej, functioned by routes 1, 7, 9, 15, 25, and 35. Presently, Warszawa Zachodnia station is being rebuilt and will be performed by the scheduled Warszawa – Łódź high-speed line.
The northwest-to-southeast tram route will incorporate a 500 m-long tunnel beneath Al Jerozolimskie and Park Pięciu Sióstr with an underground stop. As part of this project, a traction substation will be constructed and local roads remodeled.
Tramwaje Warszawskie granted the contract on October 6 and is worth 365·5m złoty. The selection criteria were weighted 95% on price and 5% on relevant experience; the winning proposal was far above Tramwaje Warszawskie’s estimation of 276·3m złoty.
Construction is planned to begin next year and is said to be finished within two years.
- On October 6, the construction of an 800 m one-stop tram branch to Stegny in the south of the city began. The route branches off at Świętego Bonifacego from an 8 km extension, which has been under construction from Rakowiecka southeast to Branickiego in the Wilanów district.
