In order to delivering Dublin’s Metrolink – Ireland’s first metro railway, the client team led by Turner & Townsend and WSP, and supported by O’Connor Sutton Cronin, Mace and PWC, will help the project.
Supporting the advancement and construction of the proposed 18.8km long Metrolink for Dublin, much of which is due to be underground, will be the aim of this multidisciplinary team. The new metro railway will add 16 new stations between Swords to the north of the city and Charlemont in the south.
Additionally, providing a direct line to Dublin Airport from the city center, stopping at key city locations including Ballymun, O’Connell Street and St Stephen’s Green, will be up to this new network.
While the project client Transport Infrastructure Ireland selected the team for this job, each of the partners appointed to a framework that runs for 13 years until 2036.
According to the framework, determined time duration for development and construction activities is12 years, with a further year to bring Metrolink into operation.
Describing the appointment of the client partner team as a key milestone in the development of the Metrolink project, Transport Infrastructure Ireland project director for Metrolink Aidan Foley said: “We believe the terms of engagement through the NEC4 professional services contract represents a real opportunity to work collaboratively and productively towards achieving our shared project goals. Following six months that Atkins bagged the job to carry out the detailed design of the advance works program for the project, the recent appointment was issued.
Works such as utility diversions, archaeological and heritage works, facilitation of land access as well as environmental monitoring are the subsets of the seven contracts of this program.
Ground investigations for the project got underway in December 2019.
