Skanska has won the contract to build the E10/rv 85 road project in northern Norway, which contains the construction of seven tunnels and 22 bridges.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) awarded the NOK11.4bn (US$1.07bn) contract to Skanska, which also secured the 15-year operations and maintenance contract for the road.
The E10/rv 85 Tjeldsund – Gullesfjordbotn – Langvassbukt road is a vital 82km transport link between Lofoten, Vesterålen Harstad/ Narvik Airport, and the E6. The NPRA is embarking on an exciting pilot project to test measures for sustainable development.
Skanska has already begun preparatory works for the project and will be responsible for the construction phase, which is anticipated to last about five-and-a-half years.
In fact, just last month, Skanska was awarded the contract by the NPRA to deliver a 2.3km section of the E18 motorway in Oslo. This design and build contract includes the construction of the Høvik Tunnel, which is 660m long, plus the Gjønnes Tunnel, which is 440m long.
Additionally, Skanska will be responsible for building local roads and pedestrian and cycle paths to ensure the project is as environmentally friendly as possible.
