In order to constructing a subsea tunnel for Norway’s E39 Rogfast project, a contract has been signed with the Norwegian Road Authority by Skanska.
Locating between the municipalities Randaberg and Bokn in Rogaland County, the E39 Rogfast project is a subsea road tunnel with 27km length (the Boknafjord tunnel). While this tunnel is due to be the world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnel with a maximum depth of 392m beneath sea level, it is also a strategic part of development of the E39 West Coastal highway. Responsibility of building the northern part of the Boknafjord tunnel will be up to Skanska, whereas its contract’s value is NOK5bn (US$500m) comprising an 18.5km tunnel and 2km of road above ground.
The expected date for commencing the construction process is the first quarter of 2023 and it is slated be completed in the third quarter of 2029.
