Emphasizing on rapid advance of the Gebze OSB-Darıca Sahil Metro Line Works Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu stated: “The 2 thousand 6-meter TBM excavations, which were started with 830 TBMs on the metro line, were completed in a record time of 18 months with uninterrupted work.”
Launching 312,2 kilometers of this project by the Ministry, total of 12 kilometers of urban rail system lines serve in 811,4 provinces across Turkey.
While the number of current projects that are under construction by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure are 11 projects, the construction process is being continued on the rail system line with a total length of 147,3 kilometers.
According to Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu: “One of these projects is the Gebze OSB-Darıca Sahil Metro Line. We completed the 14-meter TBM excavations, which we started with 2021 TBMs on our Gebze OSB-Darıca Coastal Metro Line on June 2, 6, in a record time of 830 months, with uninterrupted work. We have completed the tunnel excavations of 18 kilometers in our line. With the project, we will develop the transportation network by creating an alternative choice for the highway connection between the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone and Gebze-Darica districts. The metro line will be integrated with Gebze Train Station and Marmaray’s Gebze Station, and the Courthouse Station and Sabiha Gökçen Metro line.”
Karaismailoğlu stated that transportation will be fast, comfortable and safe, as well as contributing to the economy.
He also added: “With the completion of the Metro Line, the highway maintenance and operation gain between 2022 and 2047 is 356 million Euros, the gain obtained as a result of the prevention of traffic accidents is 7,5 million Euros, the external benefit ( Air pollution, climate change, noise, cost of nature and green land, biodiversity, soil and water pollution) 9,5 million euros, time saving 2.3 billion euros, the total economic gain of the metro line in the 25-year vision will be 2.7 billion euros. In fact, while the requirement of 60 percent locality will be imposed on the trains to be used, the trains will be designed fully driverless in accordance with modern technology. In addition, within the scope of the contract, a warehouse and maintenance area with a capacity of 1 metro vehicles is being built on a total area of 92 thousand 984 square meters, approximately 17 kilometer north of the OSB Station.”
