Alstom is going to supply, test, and commission communications-based train control systems for the 11 km Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe – Sultanbeyli eastern extension of the M5 driverless metro Line on the Asian side of Istanbul.
On 25th November, the contract was released and secured by the JV of Doğuş, Özaltin and Yapı Merkezi which is constructing the extension on behalf of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
It covers the supply of onboard equipment for four new trainsets and trackside CBTC systems for eight stations. This is going to secure driverless operation with 90-sec headways, supplying a capacity of 120 000 passengers per hour.
