Infrastructura Zeleznice Srbije, Serbia’s railway infrastructure body is calling for tenders for the building of a 3.3km-long rail tunnel in the Rasina municipality of central Serbia.
This tunnel is going to be placed on the Stalac-Junis line which is a part of Pan-European railway corridor X stretching from Salzburg, Austria, via Belgrade and Nis, Serbia, and finally, to Thessaloniki, Greece.
Besides the design and construction of the single-tube twin-track tunnel, the scope also comprises three escape tunnels, two access roads, and other essential construction work. Telecommunications, electrification, and signaling are not a part of the tender.
The measured value of the work is US$47.4m and is going to be funded by the European Investment Bank, with a project duration that has been restricted to four and a half years. Those who are interested can submit their applications till 28 September 2021.

In June 2021, an initial notice revealed the tender for building the Stalac-Junis rail project which was divided into two parts: the first part comprises the construction of tunnel number 4, as details mentioned above. The second part contains the modernization and reconstruction of the current Stalac – Junis line, comprising the addition of a second track and the construction of four more tunnels, numbers 1,2,3 and 5.
