NSW Planning Approval Granted for Western Sydney Airport Metro

Western Sydney Airport Metro 3D Model

The Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project, which is due to commence its major construction work soon, has received the planning approval of the state government of New South Wales, Australia.

The intended metro line, which is 23km long and driverless, is going to service western Sydney and the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. The estimated services of this line will be transporting up to 7,740 travelers per hour in each direction, carrying almost 110,000 vehicles off local roads every day and decreasing the local traffic.

Community feedback has helped to shape the project, including introducing measures to further reduce parking impacts on local communities and the relocation of a temporary bus interchange.

Following the completion of this project, the time period of passenger’s travel from the airport to the Aerotropolis will be almost 5minutes, from the airport to St Marys about 15 minutes and 20 minutes from the Aerotopolis to St Marys – where customers can link to the rest of Sydney’s rail network.

Supporting 14,000 jobs, involving 250 apprentices, will be the other advantage of this project.

While in December 2020 the early works commenced on Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport, major work will begin in the future months and the determined date for awarding the tunneling contract and tunnel boring machines locating in the ground respectively is the end of the year and the end of 2023.

Presenting a metro railway with 23km length and six stations between St Marys and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, including two stations at the airport, are the joint services of the Australian and NSW governments in this project.

Commonwealth government approvals for Sydney Metro’s rail development work within the boundary of Western Sydney International Airport are expected in the coming months.
