A590 ground investigation completed by Strata

Strata Finishes Ground Investigation

Strata Geotechnics, which is a section of the Van Elle group, lately finished its first project as the main contractor for Highways England’s ground investigation framework.

The location of Strata Geotechnics team, which is working on A590 trunk road, was in southern Cumbria, in the northwest of England, and the responsibilities of the contractor involved investigating the ground conditions under the eastbound carriageway, central reservation, and at the toe of the eastern embankment.

A chain of cable percussion boreholes to depths of 15m within lane one of the A590 carriageway to the east of the Meathop roundabout and in the fields at the bottom of the existing embankment, have been implemented by the team.

While the preliminary logs illustrate the ground conditions to be made ground and varying depths of peat over soft clays and silts, Strata Geotechnics’ drillers and engineers are now submitting sire data to the Highways England team.

Moreover, linking the M6, from junction 36, with the Furness peninsula and crossing the towns of Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness, are the other impacts of the A590.

Almost £8M budget has been awarded to a number of renewal schemes along the full 55km length of the A590, by Highways England and previous year this company announced seven contractors that would undertake ground investigations for a new £91M framework, while the three other companies were added in May of this year.
