As a support system in the Avrieux, service and access tunnels of Modane at the Cross border section of Lyon-Turin railway, the international group of companies consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projects, Dodin Campenon Bernard, Webuild and Bergteamet, is going to use three CSS3 EVOs, for consolidation work using shotcrete in the ventilation shafts.
The CSS3-EVO is the latest progress of a machine that has made shotcrete history around the world and benefits from CIFA’s extensive experience on site. The wonderful compactness during transport, the specific configuration of its translating boom which can be opened in very tight spaces but which, once deployed, with its 16-m length, is able to operate easily in tunnels of considerable size, the monopolized dual-axis boom turret which makes it possible to follow the profile of the tunnel by reducing the number of movements of the sections by the operator, the 180° reversible driver’s seat so that it is easy to drive in both directions, are the features that make this machine suitable for using in several situations. These factors cause the CSS3-EVO to be used both in the exceptionally large underground caverns at the base of the shafts and in the areas chosen for the assembly of the TBMs that will dig the main tunnel, and in the minimized spaces of the access and connection tunnels.
The site management has consigned the service and aftersales activities to the CIFA’s subsidiary in France, Zoomlion CIFA France. The requested formation by the customer to suit to the operational needs of the site is also particularly rich and includes: a compressor for spraying mounted on board the machine with integrated controls, an electric additive heating system, a rear view camera and an ANSUL fire suppression system with automatic activation. In summary, this is a machine totally configured to response the major challenge of this site, which represents one of the largest underground works under construction in the world.
