Project Show Case

San Diego water project was conquered by Flatiron

San Diego has granted a US $110m contract to US-based infrastructure provider Flatiron for the Morena Pump Station project which will include a remarkable microtunnelling.

The design-bid-build project is a key component of the city’s US $2bn Pure Water San Diego Program’ which is going to refine recycled water to produce soigh-quality drinking water.

Some of the challenges of this project are as follow: constructing the pump station 15m beneath the ground, wide microtunneling, setting ten 750hp pumps, and building an industrial facility in balance with the dominant architectural styles.

Due to the close relation with the City, the Flatiron team will present value-engineering offers to facilitate erection and maintenance of equipment and piping systems. These proposals will also cause to find innovative results to achieve cost reduction and speed up the project schedules.

The predicted date for the commencement of this project is June 2021, and the completion is estimated to be in 2025, which targets to generate one third of San Diego’s water consumption by the end of 2035.

Flatiron is a subsidiary of German-based Hochtief.
