The market engagement for DLR extension was launched by TfL

A preliminary market engagement notice for an extension to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) has been published by Transport for London (TfL).

Including a twin-bore 1.5km tunnel beneath the River Thames, the proposed Thamesmead Extension Programme (TEX) comprises a 3km extension from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside, whereas it would also include new stations at Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead.

The preliminary market engagement will include a supplier industry day on December 2 and a market sounding questionnaire.

The determined deadline for engagement is January 31, 2026, while March 1, 2027 to December 31, 2033 are the estimated contract dates.

In order to preparing the initial pre-procurement strategy that will be a multi-stage process with an early contractor involvement, TfL is seeking contributions from suppliers with experience in delivering works of a similar magnitude to assist in developing a suitable delivery model for the works. The advice and suggestions on general buildability of the scheme, concept design, phasing, packaging and sequencing of works and contractual arrangements for the work packages will be invaluable, as TfL says.

With the aim of drive improvements, capture construction efficiencies, reducing costs, as well as seeking innovative techniques to decrease carbon and improve whole life costs, TfL has embarked on implementing a new delivery model.

Interested parties must register on TfL’s e-Tendering portal SAP Ariba.
