The Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City hosted the ceremony of commissioning the third TBM for the Metro Manila Subway Project with attendence of acting transportation secretary Giovanni Lopez.
With an average advance of 9m per day, this machine will reach to Anonas Station in six months, whereas nother TBM that is due to dig a parallel tunnel will be started up in the next two months.
According to Lopez: “Additional tunnel boring machines means less time to complete the project. The MMSP continues and the DOTr (Department of Transportation) won’t stop working on these projects.”
While two TBMs have already dug 1km from Camp Aguinaldo to Ortigas Station in Pasig City, the third TBM is part of the MMSP Contract Package 103.
Lopez also asserted: “The fourth TBM for Camp Aguinaldo station is already being assembled, while the whole MMSP line now has eight TBMs.”
Following completion, the 33km, 17-station MMSP is going to run from Valenzuela City to Bicutan Station in Taguig City, with a spur line to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
The scheduled date for inaugurating MMSP is 2032 and it is estimated to have a daily ridership of 519,000. It will have interchanges with the North South Commuter Railway at the Food Terminal Inc and Bicutan stations.
The subway is expected to cut travel time from Valenzuela to Pasay to 45 minutes from the current one-hour and 38-minute drive.
