Following a breakthrough at the Vasant Kuni Station site, another construction landmark has been achieved on Delhi Metro’s Phase IV Golden Line.
Additionally, after completion of the breakthrough at Ignou Station in February, the tunneling between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station on the Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor was implemented.
In the latest achievement, the 91m-long TBM broke through at Vasant Kunj Station after boring a 1,550m tunnel and as part of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, two parallel tunnels for up and down movement are being constructed on this stretch, whereas the breakthrough on the parallel tunnel is scheduled to be achieved in June.
Involving a minimum depth of 15.7m and maximum of 30.2m, the new tunnel has been constructed at an average depth of almost 23m, as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation says. About 1,107 rings have been installed, with an internal diameter of 5.8m.
Being commissioned on October 30, 2023, this TBM faced challenges of a steep gradient and mixed geology comprising mica and hard rock.
The 40.1km of underground rail lines are being constructed as part of the Phase 4 work and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has 19.3km of underground sections.
The longes drive for Delhi Metro Phase IV was completed by Afcons Infrastructure in December 2024. The between the Tughlakabad Airforce launch shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station is 2.65km long.
