Including Dharat Al Badiah, Al Jarradiyah, Al Hilla, and First Industrial City stations, Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro has opened four additional stations on the Orange Line (Line 3), as Italian construction and civil engineering firm Webuild announced.
Known as the Al Madinah Al Munawwarah Axis, the Orange Line has five stations and recently has been officially inaugurated by Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC).
The stations are Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Al Dawh, Harun Al Rashid Road, and An Naseem.
Construction of Line 3 is up to ArRiyadh New Mobility, a consortium of Webuild, Impregilo, Bombardier, Ansaldo, Larsen & Toubro, Nesma & Partners, and WorleyParsons, on behalf of RCRC.
With the four new stations, a total of nine stations on the Orange Line are currently available to people, and all stations are activated across the Riyadh Metro network.
Linking residential and commercial districts with cultural landmarks across the capital city, the Riyadh Metro Network comprises six lines, spanning 176km.
Stretching from east to west, line 3 is a 41km driverless metro line and connects Jeddah Road in the west to the Second Eastern Ring Road near Khashm Al Aan in the east of Saudi Arabia.
Being mostly elevated along the western part of Al-Madinah Al Munawwarah Road, it is underground in the central section, along Prince Saad Bin Abdulrahman Road.
The expected advantages for the Orange Line are addressing the urban mobility needs of a growing population while enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors.
As Webuild stated, an additional 13 stations, including the iconic Downtown Station, are scheduled to open throughout the year.
Furthermore, the project aligns with the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
According to Webuild’s statement: “Webuild Group has played a key role in delivering numerous metro projects worldwide, setting benchmarks for sustainability and innovation in cities such as Milan, Naples, Rome, and internationally in Paris, Copenhagen, Athens, Doha, Sydney, New York, and San Francisco. Recent achievements include the completion of the final section of Milan’s M4 line. The Thessaloniki Metro, the first metro system in the city’s history and Greece’s first driverless metro was also inaugurated in recent months. Currently, Webuild is involved in technically challenging projects, such as Line C of the Rome Metro and key sections of the Grand Paris Express, including the recently awarded Line 15 West and the nearly completed Line 16.”
