In order to advancing the construction process of a new hydro power plant, including water tunnels, in Norway, Skanska has concluded a contract with Sogn og Fjordane Energi (SFE).
The location od building Øksenelvane power plant in Bremanger, on Norway’s west coast, will be close to an existing facility.
Construction of a new intake, new water tunnels, as well as an underground power station, will be the contents of NOK434m (£30.38m) contract.
Considering that the current power station has been in operation for over 70 years and requires extensive rehabilitation,the new hydroelectric plant is due to replace it and will produce 171GWh per year, which can supply 10,000 households with electricity.
According to Anders Geirstad, executive vice-president of Skanska’s construction operations: “We have extensive experience from traditional hydropower developments and we are pleased to be able to contribute to yet another project that ensures better utilisation of renewable energy sources. We have collaborated well with SFE in previous projects and look forward to starting construction work in the new year.”
The quantity of excavated rock mass in this project will be almost 220,000m3 of and is slated to be reused in other projects.
The scheduled date for commencing the construction process is April next year and be completed in March 2028.
