Winner of another Cross Island Line Phase 2 contract is KTC

The design and construction of CR19 Jurong Lake District station and tunnels contract was granted to KTC Civil Engineering & Construction by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA).

As part of the Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2, value of this contract is S$590m (£343.5m).

Being located in the upcoming Jurong Lake District hub, CR19 is an underground station and construction of this station comprises of deep excavation works near the Ayer Rajah Expressway.

The scheduled date for commencing the construction works is the fourth quarter of this year and passenger service for CRL Phase 2 is targeted to begin in 2032.

The other projects that Singapore-based KTC is currently involved are the construction of CRL2 Maju station as well as TEL Sungei Bedok station.

While the contract for the tunnels between West Coast station (CR18) and Jurong Lake District station was awarded to Nishimatsu Construction Co Ltd/Okumura Corporation Singapore Branch Joint Venture in June 2024, the contract for the design and construction of Turf City station (CR14) was won by Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore)/Obayashi Corporation Joint Venture in May 2024 following the award of the contract in December last year for the tunnel between Fairways Drive and Sin Ming Walk.

Connecting major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi region, the which, is CRL is Singapore’s eighth MRT line, will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors and around half of its stations is going to have interchanges with other rail lines.

Being constructed in three phases, CRL is fully underground and was announced in 2019. Including 12 stations, CRL Phase 1 is 29km long and its construction process is undergoing while it is expected to complete by 2030.

The date of announcing CRL Phase 2 was September 2022, and it is almost 15km long and has six underground stations.

Also engineering studies for the CRL Phase 3 are ongoing.
