Skanska Builds €111 Million Road Project in Trøndelag County, Norway

E6 Highway - Norway

Skanska, a Swedish construction company, in partnership with Syltern, has signed an agreement with Nye Veier to oversee the construction of a section of the E6 highway between Berkåk and Vindåsliene in Trøndelag County, Norway.

The construction agreement is part of a design and build contract that contains work from engineering consultancy Ramboll, with the package valued at about €188 million.

Skanska’s agreement, worth about €111 million, mainly concerns the design and construction of a 15km stretch of the E6 – a section with 2×2 lanes – featuring a new intersection and link to the current E6. The scope of work comprises 15km of local roads, 800m of tunnel, six bridges, two wildlife crossings, and different smaller constructions.

The project has high climate ambitions, e.g., reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50 percent compared to the climate budget. However, according to BREEAM Infrastructure, the whole team award level is Very Good, and the project will be environmentally certified.

The E6 Berkåk-Vindåsliene scheme is part of the long-term work to improve traffic safety and capacity on the current E6 south of Trondheim so that the road system promotes growth and development in the region.

Precise engineering will begin instantly, and the construction work is envisioned to start during the spring of 2024. Nevertheless, the road is scheduled to be operational during autumn 2027.
