With 1.09km length, completion of the safety tunnel for the Cholfirst tunnel on the A4 freeway near Schaffhausen in Switzerland was celebrated by Implenia.
The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) launched this tunnel, which is due to serve as an emergency escape route for road users. Also in order to improving road safety for this section of the freeway, this is part of a package of measures.
The date of commencing construction process was 2020, and over this period 4,800 grout anchors and 2,800 m<3 of shotcrete were required to dug the almost 22,000m3 of rock for the safety tunnel and the associated six connecting tunnels.
Summer 2024 is the determined date for installation of the operating and safety equipment, while the safety tunnel is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
