ICT Bids for DPR of Assam’s Tunnel Project Under Brahmaputra

Brahmaputra Tunnel Assam

Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt. Ltd. is the only contender to compose a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 15.6 km Gohpur – Numaligarh tunnel project in Assam.

This twin-tunnel project under the Brahmaputra River by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC) will enable vehicles to bypass Kaziranga National Park and excessively decrease travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Each tunnel with a diameter of 11.5m carrying two lanes will be constructed using a tunnel boring machine almost 22m beneath Brahamaputra’s river bed. The total length of the project (tunnels & approach roads) will be roughly 34.6 km long, linking Gohpur on NH-52 and Numaligarh village on NH-715.

The project is measured to cost EUR 705.27 million (Rs. 6500 crores). However, its pre-feasibility report collected in 2021 can be viewed on the Environment Clearance’s website.

The project’s site is located just south of Itanagar and will cut the distance from 220 km to 35 km and reduce travel time from 6 hours to 30 minutes (depending on final speed restrictions imposed).

Whether NHIDC is satisfied or not with receiving just one bid remains to be noticed. If they aren’t, then this will lead to a retender. If they are, then ICT’s technical bid will be estimated for the next steps in the tendering process.
