Tideway Project – Overcoming Technical Challenges on a Major Upgrade of an Existing Sewage Pumping Station

The technical challenges on Tideway‘s Earl Pumping Station was the subject of discussing among Wentworth House Partnership technical director Yueyang Zhao and Costain Vinci Bachy JV project manager Sophie Vicard at the 2022 GE Basements and Underground Structures conference.

The Tideway East project team representatives working on the Earl Pumping Station site surveyed the following topics at the conference that was held in October 2022:

• Understanding the ground contamination and design challenges and how these were managed while safeguarding the live assets close by.
• How several trials and testing made jet grouting and deep soil mining possible in a complicated geometry.
• Examining the tools and technological innovations used on the project that resulted in the project being a success.
