Commencing Tenders for Cumbrian Water Project

Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Program Location

In order to advance works of the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Program (HARP) project, United Utilities Water (UUW) has launched the invitation to tender.

Involving the replacement of six tunnel sections – around 50km – of the 110km pipeline that carries drinking water from Haweswater in Cumbria to Greater Manchester, HARP will be delivered via a Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) approach for United Utilities Water. Additionally, it includes connections to existing multiline siphons among the tunnel sections and associated facilities and the commissioning and maintenance of the works for about 25 years.

Construction work for bridges, tunnels, shafts, and subways, as well as tunneling works, are the contents of the design, build, finance, and maintenance contract.

According to UUW, planning consent is pending for the tunnels.

The estimated value for this contract is £1.75bn (US$2.15bn) and the determined deadline for tenders is August 17, 2022. For more information, please click here.
