Bauer Technologies Concludes Midlands Metro Ground Improvement Contract

Bauer Group Staff in Brierley Hill Metro Extention Project Site

On the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension project, Bauer Group subsidiary Bauer Technologies is going to work on ground betterment in order to minimize settlements beneath a planned tramway junction.

The intended extension with 11km length is due to branch off the current West Midlands Metro line, just east of the Wednesbury Great Western Street Metro stop, before heading through Tipton and Dudley.

Designing and constructing a number of Metro extensions on behalf of Transport for West Midlands, the Midland Metro Alliance is responsible for delivering this project.

In order to connect to the existing track level, the project will see the new tram line elevated by 6m.

Bauer Technologies, who was granted the contract by MPB Structures, is going to fix historic granular and cohesive embankment fill material, to minimize settlements below the planned Delta Junction approach ramp.

Installation of 2000mm deep soil mixing columns using a BG45 piling rig and associated grout mixing plant will be done for ground improvement.

According to Bauer Technologies managing director Michael Jones: “Bauer Technologies is pleased to be involved in this project, which combines both ground improvement and piling works. Having all techniques available under one roof means fewer interfaces for our client and allows us to focus on the right approach for the job.”

On December 2021 the working process on the site has been started by Bauer, while the planned date for completing these works is spring 2022.
