Caltrans Operation on Elephant Butte Tunnel

During 24 to 26 January 2022 Caltrans announced that it is going to work on the Elephant Butte Tunnel canopy on Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon, which is located east of the Butte/Plumas County line. While the estimated 24/7 traffic control with 15-minute delays, daytime traffic control with the same delays are currently in place at this location.

This is one of a few different locations on Highway 70 between Jarbo Gap and the Greenville Wye with current operations and delays. Motorists can currently anticipate 30-60 minute delays in this area, Mondays-Saturdays during daytime hours. Minimal delays are also anticipated on Sundays.
