Balfour Beatty Bachy Soletanche Singapore JV awarded S$644 million contract in Singapore

Ang Mo Kio station Project 3D Model Awarded to Balfour Beatty

On 3rd August, Balfour Beatty announced that Gammon, its 50:50 joint venture, has been awarded a c. £345 million (S$644 million) contract for the design and construction of Ang Mo Kio Station and Tunnels by Singapore’s LTA (Land Transport Authority).

Gammon is going to deliver the works in a 50:50 JV with Bachy Soletanche Singapore, a leading geotechnical and civil engineering company.

The mentioned contract comprises the building of a new underground station, two underpasses, and six-passenger entrances, plus the alteration works to the current above-ground Ang Mo Kio Station.

To guarantee the efficient delivery of the plan, the JV is going to utilize offsite modular construction for the passenger entrances, which will be 85% prefabricated upon delivery to the site.

The project is a part of the first phase of LTA’s (the Land Transport Authority) Cross Island Line plan.

Once complete, the project will decrease passenger travel time and provide better connectivity to Singapore’s growing residential areas.

“We are delighted to be working with the Government’s Transport Department on this vital piece of infrastructure for Singapore,” stated Thomas Ho, the Chief Executive of Gammon.

He also added: “Through our combined engineering expertise, Gammon and Bachy Soletanche Singapore will deliver the new underground station to the highest safety standards. On completion, the station will benefit the traveling public for many years to come through increased capacity and reduced journey times.”

The construction is due to start this year with completion anticipated in 2030. At construction peak, the project will employ a combined workforce of nearly 450.
