Factory Acceptance of ‘Hiwa-i-te-Rangi’ TBM

On Sep. 26rd, it was released that the 190-m long * 5.47-m diameter Tunnel Boring Machine, named after a Matariki star, will be delivered from Germany to New Zealand to excavate the Central Interceptor’s wastewater tunnel. The machine successfully underwent all Factory Tests within ten months.
14.7km tunneling will occur beneath Auckland to reduce wastewater overflows by 80% and better transfer sewage to the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Ghella Abergeldie JV will step forward with the project in 2021 from the Grey Lynn site and move toward the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant. Construction work will continue until 2025, according to the officials.
