Tehran Metro Project – MAPNA-led consortium signs MoU to extend the project

In order to delivering the eastern extension of Tehran’s Metro Line 4, MAPNA Railway Construction & Development Company, Boland Paye Company, and Chinese firm CMC have signed an MoU.

As indicated in the agreement, the responsibility of handling design, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning, and financing of the extension under an EPC+F structure will be up to consortium. While paving the way for a main contract once legal approvals and negotiations conclude, the MoU sets the framework for co-operation.

The civil works and fitout for 6.7km of NATM tunneling, 11km of tunnel equipment installation, 10 stations, three cross-tunnel ventilation shafts, as well as a night-time parking facility, are the contents of this project.

Commencing from eastern Tehran, the extension will intersect with Lines 2 and 10.

While the total estimated value for this project is €450m, 85 % of financing is due to be provided via external sources as the consortium commits and the Tehran Municipality is going to cover the remaining 15%. The MoU is valid for nine months or until the final contract is signed.

Participants at the signing included Tehran’s mayor Alireza Zakani, the deputy for transportation and traffic, Tehran Metro’s CEO, the CEO of MAPNA Mobility, heads of MAPNA Railway Construction & Development Company, Boland Paye Company, and a representative from CMC.

Mayor Zakani said that over the past four years the city had added 35km of new metro lines.
